David Walliams (Author)

Sure, some parents are embarrassing – but they’re NOTHING on this lot. These ten tales of the world’s most spectacularly silly mums and deliriously daft dads will leave you rocking with laughter.
Pinch your nose for Peter Pong, the man with the stinkiest feet in the world… jump out of the way of Harriet Hurry, the fastest mum on two wheels… watch out for Monty Monopolize, the dad who takes all his kids’ toys… and oh no, it’s Supermum! Brandishing a toilet brush, a mop and a very bad homemade outfit…

World's Worst Parents
David Walliams (Author)

I really love this book because it is so funny -and weird-it also tells about what the parents hate and love and Terry Tetch (a person who hated queues) went to Loopyland because he embarrassed his children by saying things to get in front of the queue. In Loopyland he put Talcum powder on his head to make it white and black pen on his face then it makes him look old also he stole his Aunt Ursula's walker and raced to the airport to finally get to Loopyland. When he got there the ticket-seller said "you can't queue not even for a second" then Terry Tetch , now his children's great-grandpa, said "yes! no queueing" jumping up and down but as he did some of the talcum powder clouded the air and the ticket-seller said "what's that? "Thinking fast Terry quickly said "Dandruff" and the ticket-seller said that is a heck a lot of dandruff. The ticket-seller gave them Gold Passes so they can go right to the front of the queue. They first went to the Loop-the-loop-the-loop Loopy Coaster, which is the most attractive ride in Loopy land. As they went to the front of the line people-who were waiting forever said "Hey, where do you think you are going? "Terry said "C-c-ome along my great grandsons." He then got on the ride. His face was now turning green until he vomited making his talcum powder and black marker fade away. Everyone was shouting "He is A liar" "he is a faker" "he jumped the line" then he ran away knocking Wilt Loopy-the maker of LoopyLand-Get him said Wilt Loopy they jumped in the mobile but then Loopy the Leopard pressed the false fangs-that were Aunt Ursula's- And he said "OOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWEEEEE" and crashed the mobile then they got him and put him on the ride at the back of the line. Wilt Loopy gave Terry's children Loopy Nuggets only one. Terry got to the front with someone very special but Terry's enemy. It was Aunt Ursula! Aunt Ursula bit Terry's foot hard. Terry Said "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

Spaceboy
Spaceboy
David Walliams (Author)
America. The 1960s.
Stuck on a remote farm with her awful aunt, twelve-year-old orphan Ruth spends every night gazing at the stars, dreaming of adventure.
One night she spots a flying saucer blazing across the sky… before crash-landing in a field. When the spaceship opens and reveals a mysterious alien, all Ruth’s dreams come true.
But does this visitor from another planet have a giant secret?

Spaceboy
David Walliams (Author)

I like this book because it is fun to read about a person's life and what they experience during their lifetime. It can be interesting because the characters are very different from each other and I like the way everyone reacts differently to each situation. The twist at the end is funny because Ruth and Spaceboy fly off to space and Spaceboy reveals himself to be a human, not an alien. I recommend this book for Year 2 and upwards. :)

Damian Drooth, Supersleuth: How To Be A Detective
Damian Drooth, Supersleuth: How To Be A Detective
Barbara Mitchelhill (Author), Tony Ross (Illustrator)
Damian Drooth has already solved two cases to great acclaim (and uproarious chaos!), and now he thinks it's time to pass on his skills. His students want practical experience, so he leads his seven eager trainees through the High Street looking for 'criminle tipes', as drawn by Damian himself. In the library they hit the jackpot: a blonde lady, with thin lips, removing a book called 'Loot'. Unfortunately they are prevented from pursuing her then, but the next day they go to a Dog Show, and their hot suspect turns out to be the Judge! Damien overhears her in incriminating conversation, and it's time to call in the police. However, the police take too long to arrive, and the children have to stage a mock riot in order to prevent her from leaving the scene. Damian Drooth has saved the day, again!

Damian Drooth, Supersleuth: How To Be A Detective
Barbara Mitchelhill (Author), Tony Ross (Illustrator)

I love the book, it is about how to be a detective (like Damian). And Damian has two question about being a detective, the question is 'Do you want to save the world from criminal types?' The second question is 'Do you want to sleep safe in your bed at night ?' And if you got your answer come to me at break time or lunch time . I would definetly recommend this book for Year 5 and Year 6.

Auggie wants to be an ordinary ten-year-old. He does ordinary things - eating ice cream, playing on his Xbox. He feels ordinary - inside. But ordinary kids don't make other ordinary kids run away screaming in playgrounds. Ordinary kids aren't stared at wherever they go.

All he wants is to be accepted - but can he convince his new classmates that he's just like them, underneath it all?

The Series of Unfortunate Events
The Series of Unfortunate Events
Lemony Snicket(Author)
Are you made fainthearted by death? Does fire unnerve you? Is a villain something that might crop up in future nightmares of yours? Are you thrilled by nefarious plots? Is cold porridge upsetting to you? Vicious threats? Hooks? Uncomfortable clothing?
It is likely that your answers will reveal A Series of Unfortunate Events to be ill-suited for your personal use. A librarian, bookseller, or acquaintance should be able to suggest books more appropriate for your fragile temperament. But to the rarest of readers we say, "Proceed, but cautiously."

101 Things to Do in Wartime, 1940: A Practical Handbook for the Home
B. Lille & AC North (Authors)

This book is very interesting because it shows lots of ways on what people would do in WW2 , my favourite thing to do in this book is where it shows you to make puzzles out of wood . I was really confused on the way how they got lots of supplies to make these things and the stuffed toys you see now looked much more different in the past. The most amazing part I read was when they made toys that could balance on one leg, this book is definitely 1000/10

With each turn of the page, you'll find yourself pulled deeper into the story, desperate to know what happens next. One of the things that makes Stormbreaker so captivating is Horowitz's writing style. He has a way of bringing the story to life and making you feel like you are right there alongside Alex. The descriptions are vivid and detailed, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the world of espionage and danger. The characters in Stormbreaker are also well-developed and realistic. Alex Rider, in particular, is a relatable and likeable protagonist. Despite his young age, he is brave, resourceful and determined to save the day. You can't help but cheer him on as he faces one perilous situation after another. Another aspect of the book that stands out is the plot. It is fast-paced and full of twists and turns, making it impossible to predict what will happen next. The action scenes are thrilling, and the suspense keeps you on tenterhooks until the very end. Overall, Stormbreaker is an excellent read for anyone who enjoys an exciting adventure. It will transport you to a world of spies, danger and intrigue, and leave you eagerly reaching for the next book in the series.

Harry Potter has never even heard of Hogwarts when the letters start dropping on the doormat at number four, Privet Drive. Addressed in green ink on yellowish parchment with a purple seal, they are swiftly confiscated by his grisly aunt and uncle. Then, on Harry's eleventh birthday, a great beetle-eyed giant of a man called Rubeus Hagrid bursts in with some astonishing news: Harry Potter is a wizard, and he has a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The Unforgotten Coat: Frank Cottrell Boyce
The Unforgotten Coat
Frank Cottrell Boyce (Author)
Two refugee brothers from Mongolia are determined to fit in with their Liverpool schoolmates, but bring so much of Mongolia to Bootle that their new friend and guide, Julie, is hard-pressed to know truth from fantasy as she recollects a wonderful friendship that was abruptly ended when Chingis and his family were forced to return to Mongolia. Told with the humour, warmth and brilliance of detail which characterizes Frank Cottrell Boyce's writing, this magical and compelling story is enriched by stunning and atmospheric Polaroid photos.

Our reviews:
I absolutely love this author and this book! It is about two refugee boys from Mongolia, who arrive in Liverpool and meet Julie. Julie becomes their friend and 'good guide'. She becomes obsessed with Mongolia and helps the boys to fit in at school. They tell her all about Mongolia, horsemen and eagles. The boys however are scared. They believe something is following them and they become very secretive. It is such a sweet story, full of humour and is incredibly moving. It is a beautifully written story about friendship, nostalgia and how some people can touch our lives forever. A must read!

The Explorer
Katherine Rundell (Author)
From his seat in the tiny aeroplane, Fred watches as the mysteries of the Amazon jungle pass by below him. He has always dreamed of becoming an explorer, of making history and of reading his name amongst the lists of great discoveries. If only he could land and look about him.
As the plane crashes into the canopy, Fred is suddenly left without a choice. He and the three other children may be alive, but the jungle is a vast, untamed place. With no hope of rescue, the chance of getting home feels impossibly small.
Except, it seems, someone has been there before them ...

Our reviews:
I just love this book! Made even more exciting since four children actually survived 40 days in the Amazon in 2023. Read the news stories! Amazing but true! This book is about 4 children, who on the way back to England, experience a plane crash and land in the middle of the Amazon jungle. They are unlikely friends, but find themselves on the adventure of a life time. Will they survive and has someone been their before them? Are they safe? Who will become the unlikely hero of the tale? A tale of survival, friendship and adventure. Fantastic! A must read!

Holes: Louis Sachar
Holes
Louis Sachar (Author)
Stanley Yelnats' family has a history of bad luck, so when a miscarriage of justice sends him to Camp Green Lake Juvenile Detention Centre (which isn't green and doesn't have a lake), it's not exactly a surprise.

Every day he and the other inmates are told to dig a hole each, five foot wide by five foot deep, reporting anything they find. Why? The evil warden claims that it builds character, but this is a lie. It's up to Stanley to dig up the truth.

Our reviews:
This is such a clever book! There are two stories that gradually intertwine and all becomes clear. Stanley Yelnats is sent to Camp Green Lake, a juvenile detention centre for boys. Every day the boys need to dig holes in the lake. They are pretty big holes - five feet deep and five feet wide. The question is, why? It is hot, difficult and mean work. Stanley forms great friendships and the adventure that occurs which links events to the past. During the book Stanley is treated most unfairly and this will anger and infuriate many. During the flashbacks, Katherine, a White woman, loves Sam, a Black man, are victims of racist violence. There are also threats of real violence in the present-day parts of the book, fights, shovel attacks and danger of poisoning. The book has funny, mysterious and sad moments. A really good read. Recommended for Year 5 or 6 readers. 9 out of 10
