We have had a fantastic term exploring different celebrations. We started by learning about Diwali, a festival of light which is celebrated by Hindus and Sikhs. We took part in craft activities such as making peacocks and we learnt the story of Rama and Sita. We explored the book Maisy’s birthday where we made birthday cards and wrote party lists. As part of our preparing for Christmas we have found out about the journey that Mary and Joseph made from Nazareth to Bethlehem and how Christmas is celebrated in different countries. We made Stars based on the Parol Lanterns from the Philippines.
We have danced at our first School Disco, listened to a story in the hall at a Glow and Read Evening with our parents and walked up to church for our first school Carol Service where we sang “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” to everyone. In Numeracy we have explored topics such as counting orally, 1:1 counting of objects and subitising (knowing how many objects there are in a group without counting). We have been able to name flat shapes and some 3D shapes. We have investigated repeating patterns, putting them on our party hats for our first Christmas Dinner!
