Let's Celebrate: 2023 - 2024
Year 3 Science Week Term 5
It has been an exciting time at Holy Cross with it being science week. Year 3 have done lots of work learning about rocks. The children looked at rocks, drawn rocks and described them. The children worked to find out about what rocks are like, they investigated names of rocks, how hard or soft they were and whether the rocks were light or heavy. The children placed the rocks in water to see if they floated or sank and if they were permeable (allowed water through) or impermeable (don't let water through). They looked carefully at the rocks to see if they contained crystals and layers. They felt the rocks to see if they were smooth or rough.
The children also learnt about how fossils are created and they made some of their own using playdoh. They also learnt about Mary Anning who was one of the first people to find fossils of prehistoric animals. She was a fossil hunter.
Year 3 really enjoyed learning about rocks and their hands on activities.
