Twelve children from Year 5 were lucky enough to have a fantastic 'Wow Science Day' experience at The Deanery CE Academy. The children had a fantastic time and learnt a great deal. Their enthusiasm for science really shone through and the children demonstrated good science knowledge. The children had a fantastic time creating chromatography trolls! Using felt tip pens, salt water, and filter paper, they explored the science of chromatography while bringing their playful troll designs to life. Each child created troll hair using felt tip pens. They then added a small amount of salt water, which caused the ink to spread and create amazing colour patterns, forming vibrant troll hair. This hands-on activity was not only fun, but it also helped the children understand how different colours can separate and blend through the process of chromatography. It was a great blend of creativity and science, and everyone enjoyed seeing how their trolls turned out!
The children also learnt about rainbows and they experimented with a variety of prisms, mirrors, paper, card and a light source to try to create a rainbow. In the afternoon, the children had the opportunity to explore electrical circuits with buzzers and switches to create lighthouses.
A fantastic day was had by all.
