This term, Year 5 have been reading Cosmic by Frank Cottrell Boyce, a captivating and humorous story about Liam, a boy whose extraordinary height leads to some exciting adventures. One of the key scenes we explored is when Liam visits a car showroom and is mistaken for an adult. To bring this scene to life, Year 5 had the amazing opportunity to visit the Allen Ford Showroom in our local area. The students chatted with salesmen, sat inside various cars, and explored the features of different models. This hands-on experience allowed them to better understand Liam’s adventure and retell the scene with rich, vivid details, adding a new layer of excitement and fun to their learning.

But the adventure didn’t stop there! Year 5 students also explored another thrilling part of Liam’s journey—his visit to a theme park. Inspired by this, the children used Vision 360 to virtually experience real theme park rides, helping them design persuasive leaflets for their own imaginary parks. With their creativity sparked, they used powerful and convincing language to describe the exhilarating rides and attractions, aiming to entice visitors just like Liam.

It’s been an exciting term, filled with creativity and hands-on learning, as Year 5 brought Liam’s adventures to life in both the car showroom and the theme park!
